If Downtown Los Angeles looks like it's stuck in the 80's, then Palm Springs is in the perpetual 60's. A very pastel and very modern Mad Men 60's. It's like being in retro unicorn heaven! Be still my beating heart! There's not much to do in Palm Springs other than go on mini photog hunts for the colorful oddities, which I'm more than OK with. That alone pretty much sums up my perfect vacation. Oh! And it's a great base for day trips. Joshua Tree National Park is about an hour North, Salvation Mountain a 90 minute drive to the South. Who knew being in the middle of the desert would be a quirky, vivid experience? Desert life is suddenly looking not so bad!
